The HMIS team is splitting off from the main Digital Gnomes Site. They got themselves some fancy new digs over at Tumblr.

They’ve earned it! Two HMIS software solutions, a HMIS engine and work on a solution to sharing data – it’s called Project:Mercury, shhhhh!

The rest of us will go back to playing games developing mobile apps, RIA development and games! See y’all at GenCon!

Dan, You’re welcome.

-Just my musings as we reboot our website and begin our 4th year of business. We… I am fortunate, I am honored to be here standing on the shoulders of Giants.

My friend Alan Barrett died from cancer this week. I’ve only known him a couple years – but I knew he was mad cool when he ordered a gin and tonic at the Christmas party…that’s my drink! A fellow east coaster and awesome at bar music trivia, he carried the classic rock/punk questions like a champ!

I can’t imagine telling my daughter I’m not going to be around to see her grow up, yet Alan had two daughters he thought the world of. I didn’t get to say goodbye. He was my friend and I wanted him to win this thing, we had more bocce ball to play, Xbox, and bar trivia to conquer. I wanted him to win.

I’m no lecturer. You all are aware of the American Cancer Society and you know you can help. You also know you need to get THOSE check-ups – ladies and gents. Get ‘em early.

Do it.

Team Lazarus have been good little worker gnomes – yet even they need a good and earned holiday break! We’re still on track with Project:Seraph – the codename for Digital Gnome’s HMIS.

I’m afraid though we were not immune to the Ruby on Rails vs CakePHP (or other PHP Web framework). We spent some time developing two codebases for the server and….it’s hard to pick. I want to merge them both.
For me, once I read up on the Ruby language I got sooo much more out of using RoR. CakePHP, however plays to my PHP experience.
And I’m totally ecstatic about the code generating and scaffolding abilities – RoR more than CakePHP – but I’d take either!

Zend’s implementation of AMFPHP is a plus for CakePHP, but Chris says Ruby has one too!
Installs for either are a breeze – we’ve been testing on SliceHost with no problemos.

Ultimately it may come down to performance. I’m hearing Rails may have some issues – but have yet t see any evidence. So we’re currently running this down and thinking about how to test both to find out…I’ll keep y’all posted about what we find.

For the non-developers that have heard my rants and have gotten copies of the Project:Seraph functional specs through lunch bribes…I’ll have a semi-white paper for you very soon.
